VICENZA
The proud and noble city of Vicenza became an independent city in the 12th century after having been a Roman town. After several conflicts with the neighbouring cities of Padua and Verona, Vicenza sought Venetian protection at the beginning of the 15th century. This was a period of great prosperity. It is now a busy commercial and industrial centre with its textile, mechanical and chemical industries.
