VERONA
Forever associated with Romeo and Juliet, Verona has much more to offer than the relics of a tragic love story. Verona’s golden area was during the 13th and 14th century, under the rule of the Della Scala (also referred to as the Scaligeri) family. The period was noted for the savage family feuding on which Shakespeare based his play. |

HALF DAY TOUR OF VERONA
Guided tour of Verona starting in Piazza Brà with the Roman amphitheatre,
known as the Arena which was built in the 1st century
and is now Verona’s opera house. Walk along Via Mazzini to Via Cappello
and Juliet’s House whose entrance is smothered with
lovers’ graffiti. Farther along the street to the right is Porta
Leoni, one of the gates to the old Roman Verona; Porta Borsari,
the other city gate, is north of the Arena at Corso Porta Borsari.
See Piazza delle Erbe, the city’s lovely centre
lined with Verona’s characteristic pink marble palaces and filled
with market stalls and the Piazza dei Signori, square which resembles
an open-air drawing room with all its sober elegance and flanked
by the medieval town hall. End the tour taking a look at the
Duomo with its Romanesque main doors and classical
tower.
