RAVENNA
Ravenna is a peaceful provincial-looking town best known for its exquisite mosaics, relics of the time it was capital of the Western Roman Empire, stronghold of Theodoric the Great (king of the Ostrogoths) and western seat of the Byzantines. The many wonderful mosaics, the finest in Europe, adorn the city’s ecclesiastical buildings. |
