LAKE MAGGIORE
Maggiore is the most famous of the Italian lakes, in
part for its legendary beauty at times both majestic and wild, and also
for the Borromean Islands. It is fed by the Ticino River, which rises in
Switzerland, and its waters change from a jade green in the north to a deep
blue in the south. The mountains of the Alps and pre-Alps shelter the lake
which enjoys a constantly mild climate in which a luxuriant and exotic vegetation
flourishes. |
