LAKE MAGGIORE

Maggiore is the most famous of the Italian lakes, in part for its legendary beauty at times both majestic and wild, and also for the Borromean Islands. It is fed by the Ticino River, which rises in Switzerland, and its waters change from a jade green in the north to a deep blue in the south. The mountains of the Alps and pre-Alps shelter the lake which enjoys a constantly mild climate in which a luxuriant and exotic vegetation flourishes.

HALF DAY TO BORROMEAN ISLANDS
Drive to Stresa, pleasant resort which attracts many artists and writers, a delightful place with all the amenities of both a seaside and a skiing resort. Take a boat to the Borromean Islands. Since the 12th century the islands have belonged to the Borromeos, a princely family who since in the 17th century have built a magnificent palace with Italian-style gardens on Isola Bella. This palace is richly decorated with stucco, frescoes, paintings, tapestries and crystal chandeliers. Proceed to Isola dei Pescatori which remains quite unspoilt and then to Isola Madre which is one of the largest gardens full of rare and exotic plants and flowers.
Duration: 4 hours
Operating every day
